യഹൂദരും ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളും പറഞ്ഞു: ഞങ്ങള്‍ അല്ലാഹുവിന്‍റെ മക്കളും അവന്ന്‌ പ്രിയപ്പെട്ടവരുമാകുന്നു എന്ന്‌. (നബിയേ,) പറയുക: പിന്നെ എന്തിനാണ്‌ നിങ്ങളുടെ കുറ്റങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ അല്ലാഹു നിങ്ങളെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുന്നത്‌? അങ്ങനെയല്ല; അവന്‍റെ സൃഷ്ടികളില്‍ പെട്ട മനുഷ്യര്‍ മാത്രമാകുന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍. അവന്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക്‌ അവന്‍ പൊറുത്തുകൊടുക്കുകയും, അവന്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നവരെ അവന്‍ ശിക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. ആകാശങ്ങളുടെയും, ഭൂമിയുടെയും, അവയ്ക്കിടയിലുള്ളതിന്‍റെയും എല്ലാം ആധിപത്യം അല്ലാഹുവിനത്രെ. അവങ്കലേക്ക്‌ തന്നെയാണ്‌ മടക്കം.(18)
(18) وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَىٰ نَحْنُ أَبْنَاءُ اللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّاؤُهُ ۚ قُلْ فَلِمَ يُعَذِّبُكُمْ بِذُنُوبِكُمْ ۖ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ بَشَرٌ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ ۚ يَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ الْمَصِيرُ
And (both) the Jews and the Christians say: "We are the children of Allah and His loved ones." Say: "Why then does He punish you for your sins?" Nay, you are but human beings, of those He has created, He forgives whom He wills and He punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and to Him is the return (of all).(18)
