അപ്പോള് മൂസാ തന്റെ ജനങ്ങളുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് കുപിതനും, ദുഃഖിതനുമായിക്കൊണ്ട് തിരിച്ചുചെന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു: എന്റെ ജനങ്ങളേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷിതാവ് നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് ഉത്തമമായ ഒരു വാഗ്ദാനം നല്കിയില്ലേ? എന്നിട്ട് നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് കാലം ദീര്ഘമായിപ്പോയോ? അഥവാ നിങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷിതാവിങ്കല് നിന്നുള്ള കോപം നിങ്ങളില് ഇറങ്ങണമെന്ന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ച് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ എന്നോടുള്ള നിശ്ചയം നിങ്ങള് ലംഘിച്ചതാണോ?(86)
(86) فَرَجَعَ مُوسَىٰ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ غَضْبَانَ أَسِفًا ۚ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَلَمْ يَعِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ وَعْدًا حَسَنًا ۚ أَفَطَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْعَهْدُ أَمْ أَرَدْتُمْ أَنْ يَحِلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ غَضَبٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ فَأَخْلَفْتُمْ مَوْعِدِي
Then Musa (Moses) returned to his people in a state of anger and sorrow. He said: "O my people! Did not your Lord promise you a fair promise? Did then the promise seem to you long in coming? Or did you desire that wrath should descend from your Lord on you, so you broke your promise to me (i.e. disbelieving in Allah and worshipping the calf)?"(86)
