നിനക്ക് മുമ്പ് നാം പല സമൂഹങ്ങളിലേക്കും (ദൂതന്മാരെ) അയച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അനന്തരം അവരെ (ആ സമൂഹങ്ങളെ) കഷ്ടപ്പാടും ദുരിതവും കൊണ്ട് നാം പിടികൂടി; അവര് വിനയശീലരായിത്തീരുവാന് വേണ്ടി.(42)
(42) وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
Verily, We sent (Messengers) to many nations before you (O Muhammad SAW). And We seized them with extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss in health with calamities so that they might believe with humility.(42)
